Calgary Puppy Groups Photos of Greenstone Black Pearl

Hello Folks,

Still waiting for my Winning Show Photos to come from Calgary but got two reasonable show photos of Black Pearl in the ring in Puppy Group, so thought I would share, this was Saturday, after she had just taken Best Puppy and Reserve Winners Bitch at the first National Canadian Icelandic Sheepdog Club Booster in Canadian History. What a amazing win for a little 11 month old puppy to do.

I will be doing a full write up on the first National Club Booster for the History of the Breed in N.A. area of the Blog in the near future.

Greenstone Black Pearl - AKC Show Results

Hello Folks
Win photo is coming, it in the mail and coming by CD..So on to the show news
Greenstone Black Pearl took Best Puppy in Breed all four days at the AKC show.. Go Freyja!
Her big win was Reserve female on the CISC Booster event on Saturday, she was able to hold her own against a good size class of all older, more mature females, and I am very proud of her taking Reserve female as a 11 month old puppy, can't wait to see what she can do next year as more mature female.

Greenstone Dog Show Results/New Health info

Hello Folks

Well, its been a busy weekend, we have done lots of yard/Barn work as always, we also went to a great farm sale, and meet up with some friends of ours at it, and went out a for a nice meal together afterwards. Sunday was a work day in all ways, and lots got done, most of it for critter comfort :) It was my Step-Dad's 75 Birthday over the weekend, so we called to wish him a great day, the big party is when I am out this summer after the Calgary Dog Show in Aug.

My older Brothers company rented a fishing lodge past yellowknife for their shareholders meeting, and my step-father gets to go for his birthday present, flown in on charter to yellowknife and from yellowknife to the fishing lodge on its own private lake for five days, hope he brings home lots of Artic Char, I loved that fish when I lived up north.. hmmm so good..

Three new hatches of chicks in the last few days, so that is a great indeed, and sold my two little does this past weekend, so once they are weaned, off they go to their new home about 25 min away, they are such nice does, I am so glad that I was able to find them a great home as family milkers instead of the other choices.

So Greenstone Boogie Man of Belglen was show in Regina this past weekend, and took Best of Breed Both days, and there is a show photo coming, I will post as soon as it arrives, his handler said that she really enjoyed him and that he was a good boy, so that is wondeful news indeed.

On health news, There was also a CERF clinic at the Regina show and so I am pleased to annouce that Greenstone Boogie Man of Belglen has a new Cerf- normal 06/07

Tofra Dalla, Greenstone Ada and Belglen Riddari are booked to go for CERF renewals on June 19th, so more CERF info coming on that. My own dogs CERFS need to be renewed by the very end of June for this year but the CERF vet is busy and then on holiday's for three weeks, so I guess I will be doing the rest of the dogs either late in July or in the fall, which is fine as to date they are all CERF normal and there is no plans to breed them at this point.

Don't forget for those that are looking at dogs that the CERF page on the CISC is updated as new information comes in thought the year, and the month of the CERF date is listed (starting 2007)

http://canadianicelandicsheepdogclub.blogspot.com/2007/03/cerf-health-results-2007.html

Ada has been successfully breed! Yahoo, and is now out of Standing heat so now we wait for ultrasounds to confirm little ones.. We put Air Conditioning in the attached part of the house, which is the offical dog room per say and the dogs love it, and I am sure it will help with the puppies this year, during the last two years, the puppies that where born over the summer where SO! hot in the house, that on really bad days, we had to take them downstairs to be cool enough to be comfortable, and so this year, we got the air conditioner for them, so that both the dogs can choose to go to the attached "dog room" off the kitchen (its almost a 1000 Sqaure feet, and is part of the house, has hot and cold running water, power, heat, now Air condition etc but its being turned into a just for the dogs area of the house, and its where the dogs go when we leave the house etc. Anyway, I am sure that it will make for some happy little puppies in the hardest and hottest part of summer, now if we could just get it for the rest of the house LOL

Greenstone Updates-Show/Puppies/Breed Info

Hello Folks

So first a new photo of Greenstone Blue Suede Shoes, who is Ch Greenstone Ajay's son from last year with Folda, as you know Ajay is the Top ISD in Canada for 2006, and I have a fair amount of interest from folks about when I will be breeding him, and I wanted to make sure that those same folks can see his offspring growing out.
The second photo is a new photo of Belglen Riddari, who is visiting to be breed with Dalla, and as you can see he is lovely red/white/black mask med coated (in summer coat) male, love his head type.
Onto Breed news, I think some of you will find it interesting that according to CKC stats just arrived yesterday that nine litters of Icelandics have been registered in Canada in 2007 to date, and 19 dogs have been registered in 2007, with 3 registered in 2006.
In regards to Show News, at this point, Greenstone is planning on attending the following shows (please check with me personally to make sure nothing has come up to make this change)
June -Kingston 15-16-17
July -Kars 20-21-22
Aug - Calgary 03, 04, 05, 06
Oct - Belleville 19, 20, 21
Nov- Ottawa 16, 17, 18
Nov- Montreal 23, 24, 25
At this point in time, Greenstone Black Pearl to the best of my knowledge is the Top Icelandic Sheepdog in Canada, and depending on what happens in Calgary at the big ISD four day gathering, I might be needing to show her even more, as I am working towards her staying Top Icelandic Sheepdog for 2007 and if possable, I will be working towards the same goal for 2008.
So other then that, tons of farm work, yard work, garden work, and lots of visiting..
Would you like your ISD to come to a possable fun match at the end of July, I was planning on going to Kingston for the four day show, but Monika K is coming in from Iceland during that time, so no dog show for me, as clearly this visit is more important, so I am thinking of talking to monika about maybe having a fun show and folks could come and have a fun show, and Monika would be the judge. We will see if we have enough interest.
So at this point if Dalla is expecting on time, we should be having a litter around the end of July.. I will keep you updated as things process.

Greenstone Black Pearl-Anrprior SaturdaySunday Show Results

Hello Folks
Well, what a day, what a day, Greenstone Alexander the Great and Greenstone Black Pearl where out to the shows today in Arnpior, and Black Pearl as a Junior Puppy, (just shy of her nine months birthday) took Best of Breed, Groups 4th in Herding and Best Puppy in Group!, under CKC Judge Joe Lobb, for a total of three CKC Championship points earned.
So Black Pearl has four Championship Points to date.
Which means that Freyja (aka Black Pearl) goes down in Canadian Icelandic Sheepdog History as the first female group placements, and the first Best Puppy in Group.
I was so proud to see a Icelandic compete in Best Puppy in Show, the stunning working puppy took Best puppy in Show.
On not so great news, finished the show to come out to a flat tire, which added an extra two hours onto my trip home, turns out I ran over two roofing nails somehow on my trip and had to have the tire removed, them pulled and patched and tire put back on..
Hope you enjoy seeing the show win photo of Greenstone Black Pearl.
Sunday update on the show,
Greenstone Black Pearl -Best of Breed and Best Puppy of Breed
Greenstone Alexander the Great -Best of Opposite
Total wins, Black Pearl earned four CKC Championship points, she now has a total of five points to date.
Barks.

Greenstone Show Results update

Hello Folks

As most of you that are reading on a regular basis know, it had been a very long, very hard last week, I had been booked to go to the dog show for Friday/Saturday/Sunday and we had rented Jason's boss's moterhome for the weekend.

I had cancelled the trip due to helping the puppy, and was home friday when she very sadly passed away. As you can imagine I was not in a good mood, and went to bed early, much to my surprise the alarm went off early the next day, and Jason said.. Get up and Get ready.. you are going to the show..

He has taken care of everything the night before while I had slept and all was arranged for the farm, and I could see his point, a little time away, doing something that I love would be a good thing for me.

So we went to the shows on Saturday and Sunday at Petawawa, lovely drive out and back it was raining but still good drive.

So we had two dogs with us, Alaxander and Black Pearl..

So Saturday, Greenstone Black Pearl took Best of Breed for her first CKC Championship point at the tender age of just over seven months. She went on to show case the breed in Group Seven and Puppy Group Seven. Alaxander took BOS.

On Sunday, Alaxander took Best of Breed and went on to Group Seven, Black Pearl took BOS and Best Puppy, and she looked wonderful in Puppy Group,

It was a good thing to have a bit of time away from the farm.. it was also a good thing that when we arrived home, everything was fine and all well in the barn etc.

Iceland Sheepdogs-Table Dogs or Floor Dogs

Hello Folks,

Just a few more photos of the show, it is worth noting that at the Purina Show once again we were encouraged to Table our dogs, given their size, and I will admit that they really do look much better on the table then on the floor.

I am thinking that perhaps we need to see if we can get it as a choice within our breed, when it comes to puppies, an females, they need to be on the table, its when you get to the males, that I go hmmmmm.. So I can't help but wonder if they would make a much better table breed then floor. I wish that when we were asked by the CKC what we wanted, that we had been able to be in the shows for a couple months or a year but of course that is not the way it works.

I love the first photo on the table ask it shows Freyja's outline very well, and the second one, she may not be in the most perfect stack, but look at that eye contact, and expression despite being a group ring.. she is so happy in the ring, and Iam sure that alot of that is how she has been raised and trained with the clicker and postive training methods.

Canadian Icelandic Sheepdog Club Breed Booth

Hello Folks

So a few thank you's need to go out, first thank-you to my hubby, who took friday and monday off work to hold down the farm, and make sure that I feel that I can go off to the show with my dogs! A huge thank-you to Scott/Laura for their hard work with regards to booth bunny duty and help thoughtout the weekend in many ways, plus it was lovely to get to have a good visit and for our nice dinner out together on Sunday evening.

A big thanks to my handler Linda Thompson, who got to meet Freyja or Fray-Fray for the first time, and who was very surprised to find out that she was a black tri, was expecting that it was a chincilla, but fell in love with her.. and was very pleased with in the show rings. Can't wait to see what she thinks of Zander now that he has another year to mature, she loved his brother last year but felt that Zander needed at least another year to mature, so he comes out this year, and I think that the black tri pair, one med and one long should just be stunning together.

So it was a long drive down, taking just over ten hours on Friday, but I took the express route home(paid toll road) and was it worth it, getting home in just over eight hours.. The show itself was lovely, the flowers were stunning and the plush red carpet in the rings just added to the show. It was so nice to see the ladies and gents all dressed up in their suits and dressed on Saturday evening but it sure was a long day, I was up at 6 am and at the show by 8 am and we did even get into group saturday night till after 9 pm, so a very long day for a young pup, and then there was a nice wine an cheese gathering after the best in show, then back to bed and the rings started again at 8am the next day, thankfully the Icelandics were not in that early, and so I was able to get to the show by 10am to start running the breed booth. Scott and Laura were driving back and forth, so they got in closer to noon on sunday an after that late of night and drive, who could blame them for getting a bit more sleep in the morning, plus I was only ten min away, so it made alot more sense for me to get there early and give them a bit more sleep time.
There were many folks that remembered us from last year, and came to say hello, and there for even more that had read about the breed but never meet them in person before that were interested in learning more.
The color photos were a hit, and it was great that we were also able to show colored photos of the breed faults for everyone to be able to learn them right from the start.
Everyone have a great day, just doing some laundry catchup from the weekend, and will start training and prep work for the next show in April.

Greenstone Black Pearl took Best Puppy in Breed both Saturday and Sunday at the Purina CKC Show

Hello Folks

Greenstone Black Pearl AKA Freyja went to her very first show this weekend, and did wonderful, it was a nice big show, The CISC hosted a Breed Booth in the Breeder Village to promote the breed (more on that in it's own write up) Belglen Roskva AKA Soley with her Folks, Laura and Scott where at the show as well.

The Iceland Sheepdog girls did very well, Soley took Best of Breed both days and went on to show well in group, and to earn her first two CKC Championship points this past weekend.. A huge congrats to UKC Ch Beglen Roskva.
This was Greenstone Black Pearls first show being just over six months of age, and she rocked! In the photo above, Fejya in Puppy Group Seven, with Linda Thompson, my pro handler.
She needs to continue to grow into herself, but her training and love of life shone though in everything she did. To take in a nine plus hour drive each way, two full days of shows. Friday night booth set up, Saturday booth duty, two times in the ring, and we were there saturday from eight in the morning till after 11pm that night, and back again for another full day on Sunday, with two more times in the ring, once in breed and one in puppy group.
I am so proud of Freyja, she was grace under pressure and I can't wait to watch and see her grow up, if you would like to meet her in person, contact me at isdpuppies@hotmail.com and I will let you know what shows Greenstone Icelandics will be at next.
I will be bringing out Greenstone Alaxander the Great with Greenstone Black Pearl in April, two black tri's one med coated full mature male, and one long hair black tri female puppy, should be a knock out in just how attactive they will be in the ring!

Greenstone Iceland Sheepdog Painting

Hello Folks

Wow, what a great four day weekend and Dog show event, I will get to much more detail but decided to break down the event into parts, so this is one of the thing I had done, was order, a painting done of the the Iceland Sheepdog to be used for promotional items for Greenstone Kennel. It was done in mind to be placed on a Iceland Dark Blue or Black T-Shirt.

I think it turned out great, and can't wait to get it put on a few mugs, T-shirts, bags etc.. for my puppy owners, please let me know if you would like something. The imagine is being shared here but it is copyrighted to Greenstone, so please don't use without permission, thanks.

Icelandic Sheepdogs in Finland -Icelandic Trips for Greenstone Kennel

Hello Folks

I am packing to head off to the show for the weekend plus working the CISC breed booths at the breeders village, it will be wonderful that all the CKC directors from across Canada will be at this show, so it will be a wonderful PR event for the breed.

When I was in Finland at the ISIC meetings on behalf of the CISC club, I was lucky enough to be asked to judge a Icelandic Sheepdog Fun match, there was around 30 ISD at the show, and it was worth its weight in Gold to see that many dogs together..

Here are few photos of the dogs at the show.. I will do a write up and put photos up in the future on my trip to Holland to meet some dear friends of mine and many holland dogs, as well as my trip to Norway and photos of some of the dogs I meet while there..

Over View of the Greenstone Icelandics Showing Year 2006

Hello Folks

I have been asked lately about a total overview for how the Greenstone Icelandic Sheepdogs did in the CKC show world for 2006.. So here you go :)

In total we showed seven dogs either owned or breed by Greenstone Kennels.
In total we showed at 24 CKC Shows, We finished two Championships, pointed many others. We had 24 Best of Breeds, 17 Best of Opposite Sex, and 15 Reserve Best of Opposite Sex.
In total at those 24 Shows, the Seven Greenstone Icealandics, Folda, Tofra Dalla, Tofra Tobba, Belglen Runa of Greenstone, Greenstone Ada, Greenstone Alexander the Great, and Greenstone AJay, was entered thoughout the year, and in total we entered 48 times between these 24 shows. That means that at most show's we had multiply Icelandics each day.. We normally try and show three or more of our wonderful Icelandics each day.
Thanks to hubby for pointing out that I had not added in the Brockville show, and for helping to crunch the numbers for me, which we both did until we got to the same numbers :)
Greenstone AJay placed in Group Seven, Three times, Two Group thirds, One Group Fourth.
Greenstone AJay was shown at Ten CKC Shows, he finished his Championship in one weekend, which included his first Group win, he went on to earn to more Group placements, the first Group placements for the breed in Canada. AJay was Best of Breed at every Show that he was entered in.
AJay did Greenstone Kennels Proud in the show ring, we look forward to using him for stud (please inquire if you are interested, he is available to approved Females) and we are now working him in other Doggy Sports, including Agility.
Ajay littermate sister Ada is planned to have a litter in 2007, she is CKC pointed (six), including one major, and we hope to finish her before a later summer breeding. If you would like to get on Ada's litters waiting list, I would highly recommend sooner then Later :). Most of our puppies are pre-reserved before born.
Contact me at isdpuppies@hotmail.com and I will be happy to send you a copy of my puppy application.
We are greatly looking forward to 2007, we have plans for around 30 CKC Shows, 4 CFC Shows and 4 UKC Shows this year. The highlight of the year will be the Canadian Icelandic Sheepdog Club gathering in Calgary Alberta for the AKC Show in August 2007. We will be flying out with our very best ISD's and are greatly looking forward to meeting friends from all over Western Canada (Belglen, Pineridge) Visiting with Eastern Friends (Sundogs in Ontario) as well as the different folks coming up from the United States. This should be a amazing show! I will be taking video and tons of photos at this event.
Have a great sunday.

Greenstone Black Pearl is going to the shows!

Hello Folks

Well I am very pleased to confirm that Freyja is going to her first CKC show, she is booked for the Purina Show, of course in puppy class, and Scott and Laura will be there with Soley in adult class. So it will be two little females out dazzling the crowds. Saturday is a Black Tie Event, and I already have my evening wear picked out, and to show off my very glossy black tri Icelandic Sheepdog Puppy, I am going to be wearing a deep red outfit. Just heard on the show lists that we will have around 700 dogs per day for the show, so that is great. I am very excited to see what my friends in the dog world think of my newest little girl.
The dogs are all doing well, its warmed up a bit so that is very nice, for all of us. We have been training lots in the house, I asked and Jason was kind enough to build me a new Agility table that is the low kind, so I can work all the dogs on it, including Freyja who is not doing any kind of jumping yet, other then what comes natural :)
We have also been working on weave poles a great deal and they are coming along very well.
See Greenstone Ada (pointed) in the photo above taking Best Female and Best of Opposite Sex last spring, can't wait to see her out in the show ring this year, she has matured out so much and is looking every so sweet.

Iceland's Icelandic Sheepdog Calander for 2007

Arrived in the mail yesterday, thank for the wonderful Christmas Present from Tofra Kennels, its filled with lovely photo of some truly stunning examples of the Icelandic Sheepdog Breed. I would highly recommended that if you are learning about the breed, or just in love with the breed, consider contacting DIF and ordering this Calander.

I just had to scan in and share the cover photo with you.. While there are very beautiful Icelandic around the world, there are truly some stunning dogs in Iceland, and so enjoy the photo of Hector, which would be Tofra Dalla of Greenstone Father, and Grandfather to all Dalla's offspring..no wonder AJay was a one show CKC Champion and Multi-Group placing ISD, he is following in his Grandfathers footsteps..

This event came over one of my show dog lists and I thought it was worth putting up..

"On with the news. It is 12 days to the closing of the first CKC Charity Event featuring the Purina National. The show closes Tuesday February 20th at 8”00 PM EST, and takes place March 10th & 11th 2007 in Tillsonburg Ontario, between London & Toronto.

The Purina National features a World class judging panel, and with close to $28,000 in cash prizes, this is the can’t miss event of the Spring. Saturday offers a truly special day including a “Black Tie” Best in Show, so a chance to get dressed up and look as good as your dog!

Sunday we are offering what is essentially 7 Group Specialties, as judging ends after Group Level. For our Obedience friends (and BTW someone stuck their neck out to make sure you were included, so make sure you turn out) we are offering Trials on Saturday and Sunday with a cash prize of $500 for High in Trial

Now the real meaning of the show, is not in the competition, it is in the reason for this show, and that is raising money for the newly created CKC Foundation. The foundation has been designed to ensure that never again will there be dogs in peril, and the CKC unable to help through lack of funding. Whether it is flooding in Manitoba, hurricanes in New Orleans or Breed Specific legislation, we need to ensure that we can do our part to help our canine friends when they need us most.

Our sponsors including Purina, Xerox, and many members of the Canine Media have been extremely generous, and more are coming to the table every day, and we thank them for their support. All of the members of the committee are donating their services. We have a real opportunity to make a difference while enjoying a truly great dog show, so enter early and often"

What a great idea for a show, and hope they get lots of support and lots of entries!!

Well, its snowing again today, and on the colder side but hoping for sun later. The dogs are all good, and planning on working on training today for a number of the dogs, and looking forward to tomorrow, we are going to be taking the dogs for a run in the woods, and trails, we are wanting to start teaching them to work in team of two for Ski-joing, and so that should be alot of fun.

Everyone have a good morning, and back to the grind I go.
