Greenstone Marquesa Esmeralda

Emerald( Esmeralda means Emerald in Spanish) is our lovely extreme pied Female Puppy, she is a very Dark-Red Sable and white girl.. She has lovely double dewclaws on her back legs and large strong singles on her front. Emerald has the same ying and yang face as her mother Dalla, and I am looking forward to seeing her develop in the future.
Due to the fact that the CKC and FCI Icelandic Sheepdog Standard, clearly says that white can not be predominat, Emerald will be looking for a wonderful pet home where she will need to be altered and be a much spoiled love of someones life.

Greenstone Imperatritsa Maria

Maria is a very pretty light med red (or I believe she will continue to lighten and is in fact a Chincilla but time will prove me right or wrong ) female, she is a very nice female, l love her head, bone and substance, she has a full white head going right back into her large white collar, this is allowed in our standard providing her pigment comes in fully. Maria has single dewclaws on all four legs. Her pied pattern is very striking and your eye is drawn to her and her lovely sister India.

Greenstone Empress of India

Greenstone Empress of India

India is one of my first Pieds ever born to my kennel, she is a Dark Sable Red, White Pied, she is well within Standard in regards to her markings, and I believe would make a amazing Show Qaulity Pied Icelandic Sheepdog in the conformation Ring, now if the rest comes with :)

She appears to be a full coated Med coat or a long hair only time will tell on that, she has single dewclaws on all four legs.

She is a refined female even now, I will be surprised if she outgrows this but only time will tell.

Greenstone "Royal" litter has arrived!

Hello Folks

Photos will be coming later today with each puppy getting their own page, which will have their page updated each week with new photos, so instead of a new entry per week, you will be able to watch the puppies grow up on one page, just like the old website.

Six very active and healthy puppies have been born to Dalla, out of Darri,

Puppy #1 - Red/White, White blaze, White Collar, White Socks, and White Tail Tip, appears to be a med coat. The first born pup was a male

Puppy #2 - Dark Red/ White, Extreme Pied, Mostly White, Color on one ear, and side of face, mostly white body, right back to her rump, where she has a wide stripe of color and white tail - Female - Pet Quality due to Lack of correct to standard Color. Appears to be a med coat. Double Dewclaws

Puppy #3 - Light Tan ( I think she is a Chincilla)/White -Stunning to Standard Pied, Full White Head all the way back to her full White Collar, then the body has lots of color, in a very interesting and simple pretty pattern across her back, with a white tail, very striking! Appears to be a med coat - Female Single Dewclaws

Puppy #4-Dark Red/White- Wide White Blaze (hourglass) to a small collar, white socks and white tail tip, Appears to be a Med coat, female , Single Dewclaws

Puppy # 5 - Dark Sable Red /White - Pied, this puppy is so dark that she appears Black but in certain lights , you can see the highlights that show she is in fact a VERY dark red. Truly Stunning to Standard in markings in regards to Pied, she has lots of color, very evenly placed over her body, and she has a lovely ying/yang face, with white legs and tail tip. Appear to be a long hair at the moment. Single Dewclaws on one side, and Double Dewclaws on other side

Puppy #6 - Med Red/White, Smaller Blaze, leading into a smaller Collar, with white socks, and white tail tip, Appears to be a Med Coat, and yet another lovely little female. Double Dewclaws.

The litter is very even in size, all the puppies are with a few grams of each other, just what we like to see, all were born without need of any outside help, momma dog did it all, all the puppies came out strong and kicking at day 63.

They have already started a nice steady gain overnight, and are starting to get their newborn fat bottoms :), the first place to start the weight gains after they come out, they are a nice quiet, twitching very colorful pile of newborn Icelandic Sheepdog Puppies.

So will double check all my sex's this morning, always do a quick check when born but really don't want to upset momma dog by taking them away to often, and will check dewclaws etc at that time. - Double Check done now, and its confirmed we have one males and four females, Five to standard in Color and pattern, now to see them develop and one Pet Qaulity- Due only to her extreme amount of white, otherwise, perfect Family pet and very healthy.

One Day old Update: Puppies are doing wonderful, everyone is gaining weight, and looking great, Momma dog is doing wonderful and will work on each puppies page tomorrow. Watch for updates! We are still expecting another litter of ISD any day now, and we are still taking applications for Show/Performance/Pet Puppies at this time.
Two Day old Update: Puppies are thriving and are a warm puppy puddle of color and they say, we nurse, sleep, twitch and then nurse, and then sleep and then momma dog cleans us, and then we sleep, annnn you get the idea... hmm sleeeeepppppp
So one litter is here and the next is due any day now..

Company from Yellowknife- Puppies! are coming soon!

Hello Folks

Well life is so busy right now, I will try and update once in awhile, I have company arriving soon from yellowknife for the week, and then company arriving on Sunday for a week, and even more from Iceland, and then off to Calgary, so I will be out of contact with most folks till fall, but will try and put updates on the litters and puppies, and dog shows and how the dogs did etc

Both Dalla and Ada are getting nice and big, at this time, we have a waiting list for seven plus me between the two litters and given the size of the females, I think its very likely that we will have more puppies then that. I think given the size of the females right now, that we will have litters of six plus, I have never seen them this big before..
We are expecting, 75% med coated, 25% long coated puppies, We are expecting, 75% Dark Clean Red/White and 25% Black Tri's. We have a 50 percent chance of our typical flashing Greenstone Tri (white) markings, and for the first time ever! we have a 50 percent chance of show qaulity pied marked puppies. We are expecting Double dewclaws on all the puppies, we are expecting 50% black masked, and 50% no black mask in the puppies. We are expecting med to dark brown eye color, in all the puppies, we are expecting a 100 percent black pigment on all the puppies.
Given that Dalla has outproduced herself in her very limited breedings to date, and that her son is the TOP Icelandic Sheepdog in Canada for 2006 and that Darri's littersister Runa was the first Female CKC Champion in Canada, and Ada herself has taken a number of BOB, and BOS, including 3 point majors.. we are expecting two litters of very! high quality Icelandic Sheepdog Puppies in the coming litters.
We are very much looking for folks that would be willing to consider Showing/Breeding in Canada for the coming litters. I would be happy to answer any of your questions, and send puppy owner references both in Canada and in the United States.

I hope to put up some new photos of the dogs this week with our vistors, I am so looking forward to the visit, my dear girlfriend Hill and family are coming down to visit, I have not seen her and her family in way to long.. that is the problem when you live from one end to the other in the country..

The above puppy is Greenstone Lightening is a great example of the amazing type that Dalla has produced in past.. this little tike, grew into a most amazing male, he lives in southern Ontario.

CERF Update Results, and coming litters plus New Ch Tofra Lagsi of Greenstone photos

Hello Folks

Welcome to this fine raining monday morning at Greenstone Kennel. Well its been a bit since I wrote so will break up a few things into different areas of news.
Lets start with the amazing photos of Ch Tofra Lagsi of Greenstone Kennel, Grandma Sharp outdid herself on these photos, the first one of Lagsi curling himself up for a sleep in Northpole Sherman's bed, nice big bed for a nice big old Ragdoll boy, but not so big when a Icelandic Sheepdog is trying to fit as well :) Show's off Lagsi sweet and snuggly side and his wonderful depth of color in his markings.. I love that Lagsi is such a pretty boy, one of the nicest show marked red/white/black pieds, I have seen over the years.
The second picture cracks me up, this shows Lagsi playful side, he is with string in his mouth convincing Ticky Boo that playing with him is the "BEST" fun LOL..
Thank you so much Grandma Verla for the wonderful photos of Lagsi but also the wonderful happy photos of Ticky -Boo and that handsome Sherman! Everyone looks so very happy and health.
Ch Tofra Lagsi was born in Norway, imported in to the US, where he had two litters under the Aldebaren Kennel Name, and then was imported into Canada and into the Greenstone Kennel at the age of two, and he has been living with Grandma Sharp ever since.
CERF Updates: Tofra Dalla and Greenstone Ada, (upcoming momma dogs) have gotten their CERF Renewals for 2007, for more information on Greenstone CERF results for the past seven years please check out this link. If you have a Greenstone Puppy and it is over the age of two and if you would like to consider getting a CERF exam so I can continue to track the eye health of the breeding lines, I would be grateful. I will look up and find you the nearest CERF vet or CERF clinic in your area to help in this if you are interested.
Puppy news:
Dalla is huge!!! I never seen a female this big this early, and the puppies can be felt moving, I was laying with her, she is being a very sucky female, and so both Jason and myself find ourselves stopping many times during the day to just snuggle her.. she seems to need it, but it does not help the work LOL but whatever Dalla needs she gets.. and who could resist her brown eyes and soft muzzle resting on you to see if you might like to stop and give her a snuggle, and she wants a full body hug/snuggle on the coach and then she sighs and closes her eyes in contentment while I give her a very! gentle massage.. spoiled baby she is LOL
I don't know, either the puppies are going to be big, or she has a Big Litter, the most puppies ever born at Greenstone was six, but only five lived.. and I have a feeling that she is going to break that record this time round.
Ada is starting to show now as well, she is the normal size for a female at her stage in the game..
So in keeping with the dogs and their puppies.. I have as always been doing research and found that there was two things that were wonderful for developing smarter puppies in the womb, one is found in the trace minerals in Seaweed, second is found in farm fresh eggs( found in regular eggs to, but at a much reduced rate) and so I have created my expecting mother cookies, well more like a big breakfast snack.
I don't know if you can make this recipe without a farm but you can try if you have a good health food store?
Expecting Cookies and or making smarter puppies
6 Farm Fresh Eggs (I perfer Ducks, as it givens me double the yolk to white, and what I am after is in the yolk)
1 cup whole fresh (just milked) Goats milk
I Tablespoon Fresh Ground Flax seed
1/2 Teaspoon of fresh top of the line Norway ground Kelp
1/2 Traces Gold/Silver/Copper water
The eggs, Milk are beaten together and then the flour is added I start with two cups, and then add the extra's on top and mix together then start adding about half a cup or less till it is a stiff dough, and then I roll it out and place on cookie sheet (make one large sheet, about half an inch high) and I cut it with Pizza cutter into big sqaures and cook for ten min at 350 and then turn oven off and leave all day if possable or over night to harden, the females have been getting this since breeding- 3 cookies per day as snacks.. everyone else gets one cookie per day only.
I got the Flax, Norway Kelpt and Mineral trace water at the health store.
So we will see if it helps, I had read a paper, once I see if I get the effects I am after I will let you know the link to the paper and see if anyone else wants to try it as well.
Well otherwise, life is busy but good, regular farm chores, and lots of work to do, thrilled to have the rain over the weekend and they say rain off and on all week, we can use it, the gardens can use it, the well can use it etc.. but it means can't mow the lawn right now either and it could use it, o well its always a give an take on these things.
Garden is coming along well, enjoying it very much this year..
Spent a great deal of time Grooming dogs this weekend, and a bit of time on runs and training.. Looking forward to the show in Kar's on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.. I think the dogs will do very well at it..
So that is about it, everyone have a great day.

Hiking/Swimming/ and SKUNK!!

Hello Folks

Well its been a good day, got the two new rabbit hutches mostly painted, so that is great, we worked outside all morning, and then I surprised Jason with a picnic lunch and we loaded up Vaskur, Oppa and Freyja for a trip down to where the butterscotch and South nation rivers meet, and we hiked in and spent two hours out with the dogs, Jason as always brought home a very nice rock, the top half inch is a bone bed, will look great in my rock beds :)

The dogs loved their time out and I was so very pleased with how well Freyja did, this was her first time at the rivers and her first swimming lessions with mom, she did really great, and I am sure she will get better all summer long.

The big surprise was tonight when we went out to do chores, and found a baby skunk in our little barn, and that is not a good thing, first that is where we store most of our feed, and have all our baby critters in, including our litter of barn kittens.. needless to say, it became a interest excerise called, find the skunk, move the skunk out of the building, without getting sprayed if possable and then chase the skunk, (without getting sprayed) away from the farm.. needless to say, somehow it ended up being me, the girl LOL that got to do the close up work, it was just a baby skunk, and that surprised me to tell the truth, because now is the time that they should be having babies, so I guess it could have been a very small yearly female, as skunks normal hunting area is quite big, no point in putting the skunk down unless I really have to, as another one will just take over the area..
Truth to be told, I happen to be one of those crazy peaple that think skunks are sweet looking and have always wanted one as a pet, yes, believe it or not, there is a thrilling communtiy of folks with skunks as pets (desmelled of course), and they come in many different colors and patterns.. but this little one was a plain old single striped black and white, and it was interested and friendly in a skunk way, so we took it slow and steady and finally after 20 min of blocking this area and that area, and slowing pushing it out, out the freedom door it ran, and we keeping a very respectful distance, headed it off our place, I truly hope that it will keep going, and not come back..
I have baby chicks, ducklings and turkey babies and a very cute litter of barn kittens, as well as due any day litters of bunny kits.. so really can't have a skunk hanging about..
Well, took our second crop of rubarb, and put away another bunch of bags of chopped rubarb to go down to the freezer.
Everyone have a great day.
